What to Expect During Your Plastic Surgery Consultation

A plastic surgery consultation is the first step in deciding if a procedure is right for you. It gives us the opportunity to review your goals, explain available options, and talk through what each treatment involves. At Pure Plastic Surgery in Miami, FL, we use this time to make sure every patient, whether from Miami or coming in from out of town, has the details they need before moving forward.

During your consultation, we focus on open discussion and thorough evaluation so that you feel prepared for surgery. We offer the same customized care to each patient, answering questions and addressing concerns so there is no confusion about the process. You will leave the appointment with a clear understanding of the procedure, potential risks, and the expected recovery process.

Preparing for Your Consultation

What Should You Bring to Your Consultation?

Before your plastic surgery consultation in Miami, FL, you can prepare your medical history records, a list of current medications, and any previous surgical notes to bring with you to your appointment. Current photographs or reference images can also be useful if you want to show examples of the results you are hoping to achieve.

Financing information may also be important, depending on the procedure being discussed. You can also bring a written list of questions or concerns so that you don’t forget anything during your appointment.

What Questions Should You Plan to Ask?

The first meeting with your surgeon is the time to ask questions. You're considering trusting this person with your body, so don't be afraid to really grill them. You might ask about any specific techniques they recommended, how long your recovery period will be, and any risks that are involved with your specific surgery. Speaking with your plastic surgeon will help you make an informed decision about the procedure.

You can also prepare questions about anesthesia, scarring, and how your results are monitored after your surgery. Be sure to also ask about your surgeon’s experience with the specific procedure you are considering, and ask about what the day of surgery will look like from start to finish.

Schedule Your Consultation

First-Time Patients

If you are scheduling your first visit, you will start the process by completing a short form that provides us with background information and your treatment interests. From there, you can proceed with a free consultation with one of our coordinators, who will evaluate your needs, answer questions and recommend next steps. For a fee, you can also schedule a virtual or in-person consultation with Dr. Earle, Dr. Vidal or Dr. Wegerif. If you decide to move forward, any fees collected during this process are applied toward your procedure.

Returning Patients

If you have already established care with us or are following up on a previous quote, contact us directly rather than resubmitting forms through the website, as resubmitting can slow down the process. Returning patients can confirm a new appointment, follow up on treatment plans, or discuss adjustments without repeating the steps required for first-time inquiries.

Your Consultation Options

  • Virtual Consultations: Virtual appointments allow you to connect with your surgeon from home, making it easy to discuss your goals and share photos securely. These consultations are convenient for patients who live outside the area or prefer to complete the initial discussion remotely.
  • In-Person Consultations: Meeting at our beautiful office gives you the chance to discuss your procedure face-to-face, undergo a physical evaluation, and ask detailed questions. This option is best for patients who want a direct examination and a more hands-on discussion of their treatment plan.

What Is Included in Your Consultation?

Reviewing Your Questionnaire

We carefully review the information you share in advance because it helps us understand your health background and the goals you want to discuss. A surgery consultation depends on accurate details about your history and expectations, and looking at your questionnaire before we meet makes the conversation more focused and productive. With this preparation, we can spend more time answering your questions and exploring the options that might work for you.

Looking at Your Photos

Photos give us a visual reference that makes it easier to evaluate your concerns and consider what changes are realistic. They also allow us to point out specific areas where treatment may be effective and show you how different procedures might address those issues. Reviewing images together often makes the discussion more detailed and helps connect your goals with what can be achieved surgically.

Exploring Procedure Options

A consultation includes an open discussion of the different treatment paths that may be available to you. During plastic surgery consultations, we compare the techniques that could be used, the recovery timelines you might expect, and the results each approach can provide. Taking time to explore these choices side by side helps you see how one option differs from another and allows you to decide what feels most suitable for you.

Considering Your Medical History

During the consultation, we discuss past surgeries, any complications you may have experienced, and how you responded to anesthesia. We also review current medications and supplements, since some can increase bleeding risks or interact with anesthesia. We talk about allergies, smoking history, and health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart concerns because they can affect both healing and surgical planning.

Reviewing Costs and Financing

Financial planning is another part of the consultation, and we want you to have a clear understanding of your options. A cosmetic consultation includes a discussion of the total cost of the surgery, along with the payment solutions we make available. We partner with Cherry, CareCredit, Alphaeon, and Affirm to give patients flexibility, and if you have questions about how financing works or what plans might fit best, you can reach out to us for more details.

What Does a Medical Evaluation Involve?

A medical evaluation is required before surgery, and it includes a full pre-operative clearance that must be completed within 45 days of your procedure. Your lab order is created after a pre-op phone call with our team, which is scheduled 45 to 60 days before surgery, and during that call, we review your history, provide instructions, and answer questions.

The evaluation itself includes blood work, imaging, a medical clearance letter, and, in some cases, a specialist’s clearance. All results must be submitted to our office no later than three weeks before your surgery date so that everything can be reviewed and approved on time.

What Are the Next Steps After Your Consultation?

Once your consultation is complete, the first step is making a deposit to secure your procedure and lock in your rate. You can choose between a 10% non-refundable deposit or a 20% refundable deposit if canceled more than 45 days before surgery.

After the deposit is made, our coordinators work with you to schedule a procedure date, and you have up to a year to undergo surgery once that date is set. Your procedure will then be performed at PURE Plastic Surgery by one of our double-board-certified plastic surgeons, with all plans in place well ahead of your surgery date.
