Hip Dips Surgery – is it Worth It?

Hip dips are also known as the trochanteric depression. They can be problem areas for many women who want a smoother hip shape and an hourglass figure. There are misconceptions that hip dips can be changed with exercise, but that is not the case. Hip dips can only be remedied through surgery. Hip dips surgery is done with liposuction and fat transfer. The surgery can be done alone or paired with other procedures such as a Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs) and Lipo 360. For women considering the procedure on its own, many wonder if the surgery is worth the time and recovery and how long the results will last.

What is hip dips surgery?

Hip dips surgery is done with liposculpting and fat grafting. Surgeons suction fat from other areas of the body, such as stomach flanks, buttocks, thighs or back and inject it into the trochanter area to sculpt a smoother hip curve. Patients are typically placed under general anesthesia and released to go home the same day. After the surgery patients may have mild pain at the injection sites and the areas where fat was suctioned. For two (2) weeks after surgery patients may experience swelling, bruising and pain. It may take up to three (3) months to see results from the fat graft.

Will the fat disappear from the hip dips area after surgery?

Patients may have some fat loss to the area over time.  Typically, 30-50 percent of the fat injected to the hip dips may absorb into the body within three (3) months post-surgery.

What are side effects of hip dips surgery?

After hip dips surgery patients may experience fat migration and dimpling at injection sites and bleeding where fat was removed. Some patients may swell, bruise or scar at the injection site. Some of the fat injected in the hip dips area may absorb into the body.

Is hip dips surgery worth it?

Hip dips surgery is an option for women who have dents in the hip area and want a more contoured hip shape. While all surgeries have risks, hip dips surgery is relatively low-risk and requires minimal healing time. The results can last for a lifetime if the patient maintains their weight and depending on the way their body holds the fat. Hip dips surgery can give patients the smooth hourglass figure they desire.
