Say good-bye to your “Dad bod”
In 2019 it was revealed that out of all plastic surgery procedures, women accounted for 92 percent and men made up the other eight (8) percent. Why should the women have all the fun?!
Recently, we’ve seen a rise in male patients at PURE Plastic Surgery who are coming in for skin, facial and body procedures to reverse the signs of aging and to say good-bye to their “Dad bods”. Many men are seeking to rejuvenate not only their bodies, but also their self-esteem. While pregnancy does not physically affect men, there are some who experience weight gain and changes in their body while their partner is pregnant. For some men, aging can take a toll on the body in ways that can’t be remedied with diet and exercise alone. Hence, the reemergence of the a “Daddy-Do-Over” also known at PURE as the “Papi Makeover”, which combines a male breast reduction with a tummy tuck.
What is a “Papi Tuck” or male abdomnioplasty?
A male tummy tuck, “Papi Tuck” or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that can tighten the abdominal wall, remove loose skin and fat on the abdomen. Some men will need a full tummy tuck if they need more repair to their abdominal walls and have loose skin, fat and stretch marks above the belly button. During a full tummy tuck, abdominal muscles are tightened, excess skin is removed, and liposuction is performed to the flank areas. The belly button can also be repaired, which may require repositioning and total reconstruction. The results are a more svelte and contoured appearance.
Full tummy tuck procedures are best if you:
- are in good health
- have skin issues in upper and lower abdominal area
- have damaged abdominal muscles
- have significant space between rectus muscles (diastasis recti)
- have fat deposits around abdomen
How do I know if I need a male mini “Papi Tuck” or mini abdominoplasty?
For a less invasive option and shorter recovery time, a mini or partial tummy tuck, which is often paired with abdominal liposuction works best for men who only have excess loose skin below the belly button. For those who have loose skin and stretch marks above the belly button, this may not be the right tummy tuck procedure as it will not correct that area.
Mini tummy tuck procedures are best if you:
- are in good health
- mostly have skin issues in lower abdominal area
- have good muscle tone/definition
- are at your ideal weight/BMI
- want a shorter scar
- have a small or insignificant space between rectus muscles (diastasis recti)
Male breast reduction to correct Gynecomastia
Men with gynecomastia often experience the first symptoms during puberty when hormonal surges cause breast tissue to grow. For many, the tissue goes down, but for others, the tissue remains enlarged and can often cause low self-esteem and embarrassment. We have other clients who experience an overgrowth in breast tissue as they age, gain weight or as a result of certain medications.
Prior to surgery on the male chest area, it is important for patients to seek a breast exam and mammogram to rule out cancer as a cause of the breast enlargement and ensure the patient actually has gynecomastia.
During the procedure the surgeon uses liposuction to remove the fat from the chest area and may also need to surgically remove excess breast tissue around the nipple and areola.
Surgery results vary. All patients are required to follow aftercare instructions provided by the surgeon and to avoid significant weight gain as it may alter the results.
