How Do You Sleep After a Mommy Makeover & Answers to Other Top FAQ

If you just had a baby (or even if your “baby” is older), you know there is no better job than being a mom. But being a mom should not stop you from having a strong, toned body that makes you want to celebrate your appearance. The mommy makeover is a great way for women to improve their breasts, abdomen, waist, and other areas commonly impacted by pregnancy and weight fluctuations.

Women come to our practice for a mommy makeover to feel confident in their bodies again, and they usually have many questions. If you are contemplating a mommy makeover, here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about the procedure.

What Is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover typically includes a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, breast lift, and liposuction. Your breasts, midsection, and lower body tend to change during pregnancy and after breastfeeding. A mommy makeover focuses on lifting and tightening these areas for a more sculpted silhouette.

How Long Is Mommy Makeover Recovery?

Although each person’s recovery experience varies a bit, you will need about 6 to 8 weeks to fully heal from the surgery. You will wear compression garments around your breasts and abdomen for a couple of weeks to help with the healing process.

Your recovery will largely depend on the type and number of procedures you decide to undergo during your mommy makeover. If you’re healthy enough, combining procedures is often a good idea since it consolidates healing into only one recovery period. How Do You Sleep After Mommy Makeover?

This is a common question as you will have incisions on your breasts and midsection. After your procedure, you will need to sleep in a recliner or on your back with your upper body elevated. This position will help with the healing process and avoid any strain on your tummy tuck incisions. You will need to wait for around 6 to 8 weeks before you can sleep on your stomach again.

When Can I Exercise After Mommy Makeover?

You can typically resume your exercise routine after 6 to 10 weeks. However, it’s important to follow your plastic surgeon’s exercise recommendations. Depending on your recovery progress, you may need to stick to light exercise such as walking. Your plastic surgeon will advise you when you can resume strenuous workouts and heavy lifting.

When Can I Go Back To Work After Mommy Makeover?

Again, this depends on the surgeries involved in your mommy makeover and the type of work you do. Some women can go back to sedentary work 2 weeks after their mommy makeover, but 3 to 4 weeks off work is more commonly needed. If you have a job that involves strenuous activity, you will likely need to take more time off. When you can go back to work will also depend on the types of procedures included in your mommy makeover.

It’s important to remember that a mommy makeover is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. As the American Society of Plastic Surgeons explains, your mommy makeover will be customized to your individual needs, lifestyle, and anatomy.
