Labia Fat Transfer/Labia Puff
Genitalia insecurities and dissatisfaction can cause a myriad of issues for women who find the appearance of their vagina negatively impacts levels of intimacy and overall self-esteem. Cosmetic issues pertaining to the vaginal area can be genetic or due to pregnancy, hormones and the natural effects of aging. In some cases, wrinkles, loss of volume and reduced skin elasticity can take their toll on intimate areas causing insecurities and discomfort.
A labia fat transfer also called a labia puff, targets the labia majora (outer lips) of the vagina to rejuvenate its appearance. This surgical procedure uses dermal fillers or fat transfer to restore the volume and contour of the vagina to a more youthful look while also improving self-confidence.
Most often the labia puff is an in-patient procedure that uses dermal fillers to puff up the outer vaginal area. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes from start to finish. However, some are done using fat from the patient’s body instead of fillers, and require more time to perform the surgery. During the procedure when fat from the body is used, fat is harvested from areas, such as thighs, arms and abdomen and injected into the labia majora using a cannula. Some patients only require one session, while others may need several to achieve the desired results.
What’s the difference between a labia puff and labiaplasty?
A labia puff is a vaginal procedure performed to improve volume in the labia majora (outer lips) using dermal fillers or fat transfer, and a labiaplasty is a surgery performed to decrease the size and appearance of the labia minora (inner tissues of the female genitalia). Both are used to restore a youthful look to the vagina after childbirth or aging. Labiaplasty is for cosmetic reasons or because it may cause pain and skin irritation. During the surgery the excess skin on the labia minora is reduced to make it flush with the labia majora (outer part of the female genitalia). The surgery may last up to one hour and can be performed through various techniques depending on the patient’s needs and goals.
What is the difference between a labia puff and vaginoplasty?
Labia puff focuses on improving volume to the outer lips of the vagina while a vaginoplasty tightens the inner muscles and walls of the vagina. Loss of tightness through the natural aging process and after childbirth can cause the vagina to feel loose during sex. During a vaginoplasty the tissues and walls of the vagina are tightened, and torn tissue can be removed. Excess skin and tissue from the perineum (area between vagina and anus) can also be removed to create a more aesthetically pleasing outer appearance.
