Arm Lift Brachioplasty

REMOVE UNWANTED, EXCESS ARM SKIN

It can be a sad moment when you notice that your upper arm skin has gotten loose. It can make you want to run and hide under a big sweater. But luckily, an arm lift can help reverse the process and restore your arms to their former glory.

Excess arm skin and fat can happen for a lot of reasons. It could be natural aging, a loss or gain in weight or something passed on in your genes. If you’ve tried toning your muscles and aren’t seeing the results you want, there is something you can do to help. An arm lift can help remove excess skin, tissue and fat and give you the sleeker look you want for your upper arms.

WHAT IS AN ARM LIFT?

The proper name for an arm lift is a Brachioplasty and works to correct the skin from the underarm to the elbow. The sagging and drooping of the skin under the arm is not something that you can fix with exercise. This type of loose, wavy skin needs to be corrected surgically.

During this surgery, you can expect to have:

    • Loose or excess skin tightened

    • Tissue shaped and formed by the natural arm line

    • Excess fat removed from the upper arm area

    • A toned and tightened outcome after surgery

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A BRACHIOPLASTY (ARM LIFT)?

Saggy skin can be irritating and embarrassing when it occurs in such a prominent area as the upper arms. If you have skin or excess fat under the arms and you’ve tried to remove all you can by working out, you are an ideal candidate for an upper arm lift.

If you’re experiencing any of the following issues, you’ll want to consider having an arm lift:

  • Arms that jiggle when you wave
  • Extra skin from weight loss
  • After you’ve finished losing weight
  • Once you’ve completed having children
  • If you’re constantly thinking about your arms
  • If your arms are keeping your from wearing clothes you love

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY CONSULTATION?

Though you may feel embarrassed to tell others about how you feel about your arms, you don’t have to worry about that at your consultation. Your surgeon will listen to all of your concerns and answer any questions that you may have concerning your Brachioplasty. You’ll want to be prepared with your health history information. Your surgeon will take measurements of your arm and decide the best place to make your incision.

At your consultation, you’ll also be able to get a sneak peek at the following outcomes:

  • Real-life before and after photos with expected results

Make sure to bring a list of questions with you to your consultation so your surgeon can address any questions you have before your surgery day.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Before your arm lift surgery, you’ll want to take care of the following:

  • Meet with your surgeon for a consultation.
  • Have a physical and clear up any previous medical issues.
  • Finish losing weight before surgery.
  • Ask someone to drive you to and from surgery.

Before your surgery, you may be given instructions to follow in the days before your procedure which may include avoiding aspirin, abstaining from smoking, not eating after midnight, and washing with a special medical soap. Make sure to follow any instructions carefully as not doing so could delay or cancel your surgery. Your arm surgery will be performed in an outpatient surgery center.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll be given general anesthesia so you won’t feel any pain during the surgery. Next, your surgeon will make an incision either down the under part of your arm or down the back of your arm. Your surgeon will take out excess fat and any excess skin. Liposuction can be used in conjunction with this surgery. All incisions will be closed with an absorbent suture or easy-to-remove stitches. Your arms will be wrapped in bandages.  Depending on how involved your surgery is, it should only take around an hour to reshape your arms.

After your Brachioplasty, you’ll be taken to a recovery room to wake up from anesthesia. Your care nurse will go over information regarding your healing, wound maintenance, and recovery time. If you are going home, your driver will pick you up.

RESULTS*

You will see the results of your arm surgery right after the procedure though you will have some swelling in those first few days after surgery. Your surgeon will meet with you in the first few days after your surgery to ensure that you’re healing as you should be. Your results after an arm lift are lifelong but you’ll want to make sure you keep a healthy diet and your weight at a stable level to reap the best results.

RECOVERY*

As with any surgery, you’ll want to monitor for various side effects that can occur after a procedure like an arm lift:

  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Bleeding
  • Fever
  • Excessive pain, redness, or swelling
  • Pain in other parts of the body
  • Incisions that don’t heal completely

Your recovery from the Brachioplasty should go very well. You’ll have pain and swelling for a few weeks after surgery. You’ll be wrapped in a special garment that will help ease your pain and help your body heal. Pain maintenance after surgery will be discussed with your surgeon. You may also have some bruising on various parts of your body where your incisions were made. Recovery can take up to two weeks but you should be able to return to a normal routine just a few days after surgery. Until cleared by your doctor, you’ll want to avoid exercise, sexual activity, and lifting at least for the first week. Your doctor will give you any extra instructions for care during your recovery.
